Hamburg
We found the old port city of Hamburg to be a bit more "gritty" than Berlin.

|
We got up early on Sunday morning to visit the weekly fish market on the docks.
It was raining and cold, but the Germans crowded the sprawling market nonetheless.
|
In the music hall at the center of the fish market we found Germans happily downing
pints of beer at 9:00 a.m.
Gary said, "When in Hamburg..."
|
|
On a nearby dock, people were buying fish from the very boat that landed 'em.

Near the port, we were thrilled to find a neighborhood crammed with Portuguese restaurants.
Pining for Iberia, we ate at the Sagres restaurant two nights in a row.
And in a nearby pastelaria, Gary located his favorite Portuguese beer.
