2009 University Songwriters Contest
| Now in its 37th year, the Kerrville Folk Festival is the premier folk festival celebrating songwriting and songwriters. For the seventh consecutive year, a special concert during the 18 day festival will showcase college student songwriters from around central Texas. A competition to select a representative from Bryan-College Station area colleges (including Texas A&M, Sam Houston State, and Blinn’s Bryan and Brenham campuses) will be held next spring (probably in late March or early April). To enter you must currently be enrolled as a student at an area college and you must be able to play (if selected the winner) at the Festival on date TBD. A panel of judges will select our area's representative, with the emphasis being on the songwriting craft, rather than performance.
| Up to ten contestants will be selected to perform two (and only two) original songs. Both songs together should not exceed about 8 minutes in length. To be notified when the entry deadline and contest dates are nailed down, contact Gary Varner at the address and phone given below. Here are last year's entry instructions:
You may enter by sending a recording of your two songs on CD or cassette to: Kerrville University Songwriter's Contest, c/o Gary Varner,
406 Woodson Drive, Bryan, TX 77801-4741. Include the titles of the two songs and your full contact information (including your name, address, phone number, and email address).
You may also contact Varner by phone or email (below) if you have the songs publicly available over the internet.
Late entry will be considered if less than ten entries are received by that deadline.
