The fishing village of Peniche

After landing at the Lisboa airport, we escaped the big city as fast as possible in our rental car. After some fun navigating the Portuguese roadways, we arrived in the small (population about 20,000) fishing village of Peniche.

Above: Peniche is located on the small peninsula pictured above (Gary shot that from the plane as we departed Lisboa).

Left: On the seaward end of the peninsula there are a lighthouse and some spectacular cliffs.

Melissa fell asleep on the rocks in the middle of a long walk (maybe 12 miles) that we took one of our first days there, when we walked from our hotel into town, wandered all around town, and then circled the entire peninsula before having drinks at what then became our local bar and having dinner at the restaurant we ended up staying above thereafter.

Our last night in Peniche, we watched from there as the sun set behind an island a few miles off the coast.

On to peixe, peixe, peixe (fish, fish, fish).
