Our second night in Peniche, we ate at the restaurant pictured below, where the waiter told us we could have a room above the restaurant for only $20 a night, so we spent our next three nights there.

If you look closely, you can see Melissa waving out the window of our room.

This was our local bar right next door. "Cervejaria" means, roughly, "beer joint," but all cervejarias serve wine, hard liquor, and food, in addition to beer. Beer was only $0.65 a bottle, wine was as cheap as $2.00 a bottle, and the food was comparably cheap. Curiously, the same was true for "cafés," which caused us to speculate about ways to go stay in Portugal for extended periods in the future.

We could see the port of Peniche out our window. Peniche is a major supplier of fish to Portugal.
|
We could see big fishing ships.
|
Here's a broader view of that portion of the harbor.

And now here's a panorama taken out our room's window (scroll right to pan through it).

There were always old fishermen standing around "supervising." (Our room was just a few doors down the street to the right.)
|
"Supervising" things like the construction of cobblestone walks and streets, which are ubiquitous in Portugal.
|
And these folks, who were repairing fishing nets.
There was a nice little museum
in Peniche.
