Dr. Gregory Pappas received the Distinguished Research Fellowship with the Latino Research Initiative at The University of Texas at Austin for 2017-2018. The Latino Research Initiative is a national leader in research and policy about issues affecting Latinos. Housed in the College of Liberal Arts, the Latino Research Initiative was created to generate vital data, grants and research about Mexican American and Latino populations in Texas and the nation. They only grant one Distinguished Research Fellowship a year and their mission is to serve as an invaluable scholarly resource for the analysis of public policies and issues facing one of the fastest-growing ethnic groups in Texas and in the United States. The title of Dr. Pappas’ project is “An Inter-American Approach to the Problems of Injustice”. He will be working to develop a theoretical framework on how to approach problems of injustice in the Latino communities (i.e., how to inquire into the causes and the best means of amelioration.) It is “Inter-American” in integrating philosophers concerned with local injustices in different regions of the Americas that have important similar insights worth reconstructing and applicable in other contexts.
